Anyone who works with ChatGPT and other tools knows the problem: Often the answers are helpful, but not quite what you were looking for. Sometimes the right tone is missing, sometimes the results are too general. This is precisely where the PROMPT method by Oliver Bock & Florian Knust comes in – a simple yet effective structure for formulating queries precisely.

What does PROMPT mean?
Each letter represents an element that should be included in a good prompt:
R – Role : What role should the AI take on? (e.g., teacher, expert, travel advisor) Very important in my opinion!
P – Project / Context : What is it about? What is the goal?
O – Main Audience : Who is the result intended for? Without a target audience definition, it's useless!
M – Output : What type of result is expected? (Text, list, table, code, etc.)
P – Presentation / Format : In what form should the result be presented?
T – Tone : In what style or tone should the AI respond?
Why is this important?
The method brings structure and clarity to prompts. Instead of vague requests ("Write me something about sustainable travel"), the AI receives precise instructions – and the results are much more in line with its own expectations. This saves time, stress, and rework .
An example
👉 Without a method: “Write me something about a sustainable trip to Switzerland.”
👉 Using the PROMPT method: "You are an environmentally conscious travel consultant. I'm planning a sustainable weekend trip to Switzerland for my boss. Please tell me the top three travel destinations and suitable activities. Provide the information in a table with the columns 'Location,' 'Activities,' 'Highlights,' and choose a professional, yet slightly enthusiastic, tone."
The difference? The second result is clear, to the point, and immediately usable.
Conclusion
The PROMPT method is a truly practical tool: easy to remember, immediately applicable, and useful in all areas—whether in marketing, school, or writing blog posts. Anyone who works with AI should definitely give it a try.
By the way, there is a new book called "Superpower ChatGPT" .
